Participants of the Workshop

The FNCA 2025 Workshop on Radiation Processing and Polymer Modification (RPPM) was held on December 16th - 19th 2025, at Avani Ratchada Bangkok Hotel, Thailand. The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan with cooperation of Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT). 28 representatives involved in radiation processing and polymer modification from 10 FNCA member countries attended the workshop, namely Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, The Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

In the Opening Session, Dr. Kanokporn Boonsirichai, Deputy Executive Director of TINT, and Mr. NAKAJIMA Shogo, MEXT, gave welcoming remarks, and Mr. WADA Tomoaki, FNCA Adviser of Japan, expressed opening remarks. Prof. OKAZAKI Shin, FNCA RPPM Project Leader (PL) of Japan outlined FNCA RPPM Project and explained the purpose of the workshop.For the progress report on biofertilizer and polymer modification, 9 reports for the biofertilizer and 10 reports for the polymer modification were presented individually. Following the progress reports, Dr. PHUA CHOO KWAI HOE introduced the progress of guideline development on the Guideline of FNCA Biofertilizer Development and Irradiation Mutagenesis of Microorganisms. In the discussion on new research activities, 3 groups conducted discussions according to subjects, and group leaders presented on achievements, obstacles and planning. Prof. OKAZAKI gave a presentation on future plans, encouraging the following 4 points. Mr. NAKAJIMA from MEXT explained about Researchers Exchange Program, in relation to the item 3 above. Although the possibility of holding online meeting was discussed, in-person meetings was encouraged with regard to this project. Then Prof. OKAZAKI summarized the major activities and achievements of the workshop, and Mr. WADA gave closing remarks.

[ Technical Visit ]

Technical Visit to TINT's Irradiation center at Technopolis was held on December 18th. Participants visited Electron Beam Irradiation Facility, Gamma Ray Irradiation Facility and X ray facility.

2) Workshop Programme

The FNCA 2025 Workshop on Radiation Processing and Polymer Modification (RPPM) was held on December 16th - 19th 2025, at Avani Ratchada Bangkok Hotel, Thailand. The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan with cooperation of Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT).
The experts involved in radiation processing and polymer modification from 10 FNCA member countries attended the workshop, namely Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. The programme of the workshop is attached in Annex 1. The list of participants is attached in Annex 2.

Session 1: Progress Report on Biofertilizer
9 reports on the progress and future plan for biofertilizer research were presented.
The summary of each report is attached in Annex 3.

Session 2: Progress Report on Polymer Modification
10 reports on the progress and future plan for radiation processing and polymer modification were presented.
The summary of each report is attached in Annex 3.

Session 3: Guideline of FNCA Biofertilizer Development and Irradiation Mutagenesis of Microorganisms
Dr. PHUA CHOO KWAI HOE, Research Officer, Malaysia Nuclear Agency introduced progress of guideline development. Malaysia, Japan and Vietnam have been involved in drafting the guidelines. Japan encouraged to other country to contribute to the guideline, and to explore means to disseminate the guideline after completion, beyond the FNCA website.

Session 4: Discussion on New Research Activities
First, Dr. NAGASAWA Naotsugu gave instruction on how to conduct group discussion. Then following 3 groups conducted discussions according to subject, and group leaders presented on achievements, obstacles and planning as Annex 4.

Session 5: Future Plan
Prof. OKAZAKI gave presentation on future plan, encouraging following four points.

  1. More focus on the research that can be commercialized and or have social significance
  2. Look for funding opportunities
  3. Exchange of researchers and students
  4. Discuss on guideline/standard of Bio-stimulant
